For those starting childcare work, this course qualifies an individual to work as a nursery nurse, childminder or classroom assistant.
The Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce is for learners starting their career in childcare and is an excellent preparation for the Level 3 Diploma.
Most people choose to study for this qualification as part of an Apprenticeship which is funded by the Government (see the Funding page under each course heading for more detail). To gain an Apprenticeship, learners will study for the Certificate plus functional skills - practical skills in English, maths and ICT (information and communications technology) that provide you with the skills and abilities needed to be able to work confidently, effectively and independently.
Level 1 for all three core skills needs to be achieved along with Level 2 Award in Employment Rights & Responsibilities and Peronal Learning & Thinking Skills.
The course should take up to 12 months to complete and you can study online via our Online Training Academy or attend monthly study days - typically on a Saturday. Over 25s can take advantage of Smart Training's fast-track training programme to possibly complete the course within nine months.
The Certificate is made up of 35 credits - a combination of guided learning hours, private study and assessment - which can be built up at your own pace. Assessment is by workplace observations, practical tasks at work, answering questions and report writing.
Twenty-one-year-old nursery nurse Vicky Gunn credits the support of Smart Training in not only achieving her Apprenticeship in Childcare but completing it ahead of schedule.
