Level 3 in Childcare – Social Care pathway

The Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce Social Care pathway is a nationally recognised qualification for those who work within the children and young people's social care sector such as within residential childcare settings, youth and community work, foster care and children's centres.

The course comprises four core units:

  • Promoting communication
  • Promoting equality and inclusion
  • Engaging in personal development
  • Principles for implementing a duty of care

Plus three mandatory units :

  • Assessment and planning with children and young people
  • Promoting the wellbeing and resilience of children and young people
  • Professional practice in children and young people's social care

And a choice of optional units including:

  • Support care within fostering services for vulnerable children and young people
  • Professional practice in early years settings
  • Support to make positive changes in their lives
  • Work with parents to meet children's needs
  • Promoting positive behavior.

The course takes around 12 months to complete this course and is made up of 65 credits - a combination of guided learning hours, private study and assessment which can be built up at your own pace.

As well as working towards the Diploma, those with Apprenticeship funding will also study for Level 2 functional skills in English, maths and ICT (information and communications technology) along with Employment Rights & Responsibilities and Personal Learning & Thinking Skills. These provide learners with the skills and abilities needed  to be able to work confidently, effectively and independently
