Level 5 Diploma in Management

Providing a nationally-recognised management qualification for developing or experienced second-line or middle managers.

If you're a manager who allocates work to others, controls limited financial budgets or contributes to broader activities, such as change programmes and recruitment, then thisis the course for you. 

It takes nine to 12 months to complete and involves study sessions either online or attendance one day per month - typically on a Saturday  - comprising theoretical and practical input as well as observation in the workplace. Assessment is by workplace observations, carrying out practical tasks at work, and producing a portfolio of written work.

Those studying for the Level 5 under the Government's Apprenticeship scheme also cover a BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Management, Personal Learning & Thinking Skills plus Level 2 in the functional skills of maths, English and ICT.  These provide learners with the skills and abilities they need to be able to work confidently, effectively and independently.

There are four mandatory units to the Diploma:

  • Developing and evaluating operational plans for your area of responsibility
  • Providing leadership and direction for your area of responsibility
  • Planning change in your area of responsibility
  • Working productively with colleague and stakeholders.

A choice of optional units includes:

  • Managing health and safety across an organisation
  • Conducting a quality audit
  • Examining staff turnover issues in your area of responsibility.
