Everyone who studies with Smart Training is asked to find a Mentor at work.
A good mentor helps and encourages a learner to succeed with their qualification, acting as a friend as well as making sure the work is done on time, providing support when needed.
At Smart Training we find that Room Leaders make the best mentors because they are in the room with the learner all the time and know exactly what work they can and can’t do. This makes it easier for them to sit down with the learner to see what they are doing.
Mentors should be Level 3 qualified and have a good amount of experience. They should also want to be a mentor and get on well with the person they will be supervising. It is ideal if the mentor has also done a vocational qualification themselves because they will understand what the learner is going through.
Smart Training has produced an information pack for Mentors, outlining the support they should be providing to learners. Copies are provided to all Mentors when learners first start their courses.
