Frequently asked questions

Below are the questions we're most often asked by learners. If there's anything else you'd like to know about our training, call us on 0845 177 0695.

Why should I choose Smart Training?
Smart Training has 17 years’ experience of delivering specialist training with a practical focus in the workplace and we are proud of our reputation for quality. Our tutors are highly experienced and committed to drawing out the best from each and every learner.

We offer a range of nationally recognised qualifications with the flexibility for learners to incorporate their own experiences. Furthermore, in our last official inspection we gained four top grades for outstanding training.

Is training really free of charge?
Smart Training offers free or subsidised training courses for eligible learners who are employed for more than 30 hours a week, have lived in the UK or European Union for the last three years and don't hold a UK recognised degree.

Our training is free of charge for eligible learners aged 16-24 as the Government funds the cost under its Apprenticeship Scheme. Due to decreasing Government budgets, however, the Skills Funding Agency asks employers to pay half the cost of training for older learners aged 25 and over. We can help towards this cost so the Employers' Contribution is just £500 plus VAT.

If you hold an overseas degree, we may be able to fund your training. For more information contact NARIC to have your degree verified - http://www.naric.org.uk/

If you are unemployed and claiming Job Seekers Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance we may also be able to access some funding for you. Call our Placements Team on 0845 177 0695 for more information.
How are courses taught?
Our courses involve tutorials one day per month, or via our Online Training Academy, comprising theoretical and practical input. Outside of the tutorials, there will be a portfolio of assignments to complete in the learner’s own time.

What support is available to me during my course?
All learners will be assigned a Training Manager as a mentor – who will be their personal contact for help and support during the course.

Where will I be studying?
All courses involve tutorials one day per month, at locations across the country, or on the internet via our Online Training Academy. For details see the Training Centres section. Outside of this, some courses involve assessment in the workplace.

How big are class sizes?
Class sizes are limited to no more than 15 students. This enables full participation in the course by all learners.

Will I need to buy any materials, equipment or books?
Fees are inclusive of course materials snd resources are provided via our Online Training Academy. You may wish to buy some books to supplement your studies.
