Level 3 in Management

For individuals working in their first management role – such as room leaders.

The course involves study sessions either online, or by attending one day per month – typically on a Saturday - comprising theoretical and practical input as well as observation in the workplace. Assessment is by workplace observations, carrying out practical tasks at work, answering questions and report writing.

To apply for this course, which takes 8-10 months to complete,  individuals must hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare and be working in a supervisory role such as Room Leader or Deputy Manager.

A BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Management and Personal Learning & Thinking Skills are included in the course for those studying with Apprenticeship funding along with core functional skills at Level 2 in maths, English and ICT. These provide learners with the skills and abilities they need to be able to work confidently, effectively and independently.

The Certificate itself comprises three mandatory units:

  • Managing your own professional development
  • Setting objectives and providing support for team members
  • Planning and allocating work to a team.

Optional units include:

  • Providing leadership and direction
  • Implementing change
  • Recruiting staff
  • Managing customer service.
