For experienced nursery workers, foster carers and classroom assistants, this course demonstrates a sound knowledge base and competency in looking after children.
The Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce is the only Level 3 diploma for childcare practitioners in England and brings together three specialist pathways:
The benefit is that learners gain experience of the wider children and young people's workforce while choosing the pathway suitable for their own career. Both the Early Years or Children's Social Care options are offered by Smart Training.
It will take up to 16 months to complete the course which can be undertaken online through our Online Training Academy or by attendance at monthly study days.
Applicants should have a Level 2 qualification in Childcare and ideally have at least two years' experience in a childcare environment with at least three months in their current childcare job.
Those opting for this qualification as part of an Apprenticeship, which is funded by the Government (see the Funding page for more detail), will also study functional skills - practical skills in English, maths and ICT (information and communications technology) that provide you with the skills and abilities needed to be able to work confidently, effectively and independently
Level 2 at the three core skills is needed along with Level 2 Award in Employment Rights & Responsibilities and Personal Learning & Thinking Skills.
The Diploma is made up of 65 credits -a combination of guided learning hours, private study and assessment - which can be built up at your own pace.
Assessment is by workplace observations, carrying out practical tasks at work, answering questions and report writing.
“An Apprenticeship with Smart Training is the perfect way to do the training as you can gain the work experience at the same time as learning. There’s obviously quite a lot to do but it’s worth it and I’ve found it brilliant – the best way to train.”
