Below are the questions we're most often asked by employers. If there's anything else you'd like to know about our training, call us on 0845 177 0695.
Why should I choose Smart Training for my staff?
Smart Training has 18 years' experience of delivering specialist training with a practical focus in the workplace and we are proud of our reputation for quality. Our tutors are highly experienced and committed to drawing out the best from each and every student.
We offer a range of nationally recognised qualifications with the flexibility for students to incorporate their own experiences. What's more, in our last official inspection we gained four top grades for outstanding training.
Is training really free of charge?
Training is available free of charge for eligible learners aged between 16 and 24 as the Government funds the cost under its Apprenticeship Scheme. Subsidised training is available for learners aged 25 who need to pay an Employer Contribution of £500 plus VAT. The funding is available to all learners who are in employment for more than 30 hours a week, have lived or worked in the European Union (EU) for at least three years and don't hold a UK degree. Call us for more details on 0845 177 0695.
Who is responsible for paying the fees?
As an employer, you are responsible for ensuring course fees are paid, and certificates aren't released until payment is made.
One of my staff has an overseas degree - can they get any funding?
They may be able to get funding for training, depending on the degree. Please call Tony Relf on 0845 177 0695 for more information
How soon can my staff start training with you?
Normally we ask that they have completed their three month induction with you before we enroll them on a training course. However, if they are aged 16-18 we are happy to sign them up as soon as they join you, so they can start working towards their qualification.
How are courses taught?
Our courses involve study days once a month, comprising theoretical and practical input. Outside of the tutorials, there will be a portfolio of assignments for students to complete in their own time. Learners can also complete all or part of their course via our Online Training Academy.
We also offer a Day Release option for learners under the age of 18 whereby they will attend a weekly study session and complete their Level 2 qualification in six months.
How much time will I need to allow for learners to complete their studies in the workplace?
1-2 hours a week should be sufficient for most candidates.
How many learners are there in the study groups?
Class sizes are limited to no more than 18 students. This enables full participation in the course by all delegates.
Will learners need to buy any materials, equipment or books?
All course materials are provided via our Online Training Academy although learners may wish to buy extra learning resources to help them with their studies.
Where will learners be studying?
We have training venues right across the country. For details see the Training Venues section or call us on 0845 177 0695.
The nearest centre for my learners is not particularly convenient. Can you offer a solution?
We can offer bespoke training at your premises for a group of six or more learners. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
What support is available to learners during their course?
All learners will be assigned a Training Manager who monitors progress, identifies any problems and helps overcome them. All learners also have their own Tutor/Assessor who teaches the study days and assesses the work. In addition, each learner should have a workplace mentor to provide support to the learner.
How can I support my learner(s)?
You can provide the best support by:
Giving them opportunities to practice their skills at work
Creating time for portfolio development and supporting them in completing their assignments
Nominating a member of your team to act as a Mentor to them
Enabling learners to study online, or to attend training sessions on one day per month
Giving them the time in the workplace to complete their evidence collection plans.
What should a mentor do?
A workplace mentor should set aside a specific time each week for training support, be available to answer questions, support the learner in carrying out their Evidence Collection Plans and be a good role model and friend to the learner.
Smart Training has produced an information pack for Mentors, outlining the support they should be providing to learners. Copies are provided to all Mentors when learners first start their courses.
How do I book a course?
Complete the booking form on this website, or download and print out the pdf version and send it to our office.
On receipt of your booking form we will phone you to discuss your application. Once your learner(s) place are confirmed, we will arrange to meet them before they start their course(s).
If a learner leaves the course early will I get a refund of any fees that I've paid?
No - unfortunately we're not able to offer a refund of any top-up fees or course fees that have been paid. Click here for our fees policy: www.smart-training.com/p-81-fees-policy.html
How does your recruitment service work?
We can find you both unqualified or qualified staff for no fee and can match one of our range of candidates with you to suit your requirements. The only condition of this service is that once you've employed a new member of staff they will need to enroll on one of our training courses.
It really won't cost me anything?
The service is completely free of charge as long as the new member of staff starts training with us.
